A 44-strong contingent of gardening enthusiasts from north London, took time out from tending their own green spaces to visit the gardens surrounding the Englefield Estate.

A group from the De Beauvoir Gardeners club, based in the London borough of Hackney, enjoyed a guided tour of the gardens by the Estate’s head gardener Sue Broughton who passed on tips and inspiration, followed by afternoon tea.

The De Beauvoir Gardeners group welcomes “anyone who loves plants and growing things”, however small their space, be it a window box, garden or allotment.

Group member and event organiser Nancy Turnball, said: “Our visit to the Englefield Estate was a very enjoyable day; all our members went along to learn, so it was nice to be introduced to new plants and pick up some tips. They were very gracious hosts.”
