Kathleen O'Meally
Accounts manager
Kathleen joined the team at The Benyon Estates as accounts manager in June 2015. Having studied accounting in Jamaica, she moved to London in the 1990s where she undertook further studies and became a member of the Association for Accounting Technicians. She held a variety of roles in property management, including one based in the West End for over 5 years. She also worked as a property accountant in New Jersey, while residing for a period of time in the States.
Following her return to the UK, Kathleen was offered the job at The Benyon Estate. Her organisational skills and strong eye for detail were put to the test almost immediately as she was asked to start working the same day of her interview.
Responsibilities range from processing all our sales and purchase invoices, credit control and company financial data as well as reconciling all the rent accounts and producing financial statements and reports. She also looks after the service charges for all the service charge properties. Kathleen works very closely with Vicky Savage, who comes up once a month from our Englefield Estate office near Reading.
As part of a small team, we take the opportunity to examine everything on a case-by-case basis if problems arise. “That’s what’s so different working here from a commercial business,” believes Kathleen. “The Benyon Estate is about family and community. We take each case and try and understand the individual needs and concerns,” she adds.
Each day is refreshingly different. “I feel very much at home here – it’s the happiest place that I’ve ever worked. There’s always lots to do, and sometimes it gets stressful but everyone appreciates the effort we put it in and it feels very much like working as a family.”
