RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY
Alan Masterson
When Alan Masterson moved to Englefield Road in 1978 with his parents and brothers and sisters it was, he says, like going into “Buckingham Palace.”
The five-bedroom property was a big contrast to the flat the family had occupied and the move marked the start of a long association with the Benyon Estate which for Alan lasts to this day.
In a series of video recordings for the Estate to mark some of the memories of its longest standing tenants, Alan – a successful boxer in his day - describes his move to another Benyon-owned property in Mortimer Road, when he married.
Later, when his wife discovered she was expecting twins and the family needed more space, the Estate found him a vacant property just across the street.
“I’ve always liked living here,” Alan, now 64, says of De Beauvoir Town and the Benyon Estate. “I married here, divorced here, had all me kids here from babies ‘til they left home…and they’ve all turned out all right.”
