RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY
The Loughlin family
E-commerce director Ross lives with his wife, Hayley, their two small children and Stella, a French bulldog, in a two-bedroom maisonette in De Beauvoir Road. It’s one of three Benyon Estate properties that Ross has rented since moving into the area with a group of friends back in 2005.
My friends and I didn’t know about The Benyon Estate before exploring the area,” says Ross. “We were looking around Shoreditch but one day we went for a drink in the Scolt Head pub and then walked down De Beauvoir Road afterwards. We couldn’t quite believe how nice it was so, when we came across some builders working on a house, we stopped and asked.” The person in charge of the site was John Bell, The Benyon Estate’s maintenance supervisor. “John said the property was coming up for rent and that we should call if we were interested.”

The friends took the flat and when Ross met Hayley a few years later they moved into a different house in Ufton Road. When they then realised they’d soon need some more space and a garden with a family to look after, Ross got in touch with Louise. “That’s the good thing about The Benyon team who were doing refurbishment work on a property which met our needs. We ended up moving into our home just a week before our eldest child was born.”

Ross says it’s the standard of care that tenants receive from The Benyon Estate that sets them apart from many other landlords. “Everything is beautifully decorated, there’s a face that you know to talk to, and when there are problems, they get fixed immediately. That really matters when you have a young family. That’s the reason I keep ploughing my money into The Benyon Estate!”
De Beauvoir Town will always have a special significance for the couple. In the summer of 2017, when Ross and Hayley decided to get married, they chose to hold the service in St Peter’s De Beauvoir––the Gothic revival-style church built by Richard Benyon in 1841. “It’s something of a focal point for the community and Hayley was able to walk to the church on the morning of the marriage which was pretty special."

Jacquie Campbell, a housing professional, and her husband Neal, have lived in a two-bedroom maisonette on De Beauvoir Road since August 2013. Their son, Oliver, also lived with them at first, when he wasn’t away studying at university, but now lives with friends nearby.
