Student Charlie Urquhart had a hands-on opportunity to road test his future career as an electrician thanks to a fortnight’s work experience on The Benyon Estate.

Seventeen-year-old Charlie, son of our Maintenance Manager, Duncan, is studying for his Level 2 City and Guilds Diploma in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures) at Farnborough College of Technology.

During his time working on the Benyon Estate, Charlie changed light fittings, sockets and smoke detectors under the expert supervision of the team at D.R. Security and Electrical, contractors for the Benyon Estate.

Reporting back on his two weeks as an electrician, Charlie said: “It’s been great to get some hands-on experience with the team at DR Electrical. I’ve learned lots and I now know for sure that I’ve made the right career choice.”

Duncan, said: “Working with Jason McKenzie, the MD, Charlie has learned a great deal which will help him on his year-long course.” He added: “It’s also been really nice coming into work on the train with Charlie and spending time with him in a work environment.

“It’s great that the Estate can facilitate these opportunities. Not only does it help them on their career path, it helps our team too, and when vacancies come up we have a potential candidates coming forward to fill them.”
