After almost 20 years at the Benyon Estate, maintenance supervisor John Bell retired in March 2021.

Edward Benyon reflects: "When I started at the Benyon Estate it was only me, John and one other person. We worked out of a small office in the ground floor of 72 Southgate Rd. The task ahead of us was daunting but this did not phase John. His knowledge of the properties and the tenants was and still is unrivalled and was an enormous help to me.

"John is a man whose work ethic, courtesy, sense of humour and sense of duty will be long remembered by not only those on the Benyon Estate but also the wider community of De Beauvoir."

Filling John's boots will be Duncan Urquhart. After a career in the military, he completed his resettlement training in construction and spent almost a decade working on the renovation and construction of houses in his homeland of The Hebrides.

Duncan said: “John knows each of our tenants and the history of every single building, so it was extremely helpful to work with him before he left so he could pass on his knowledge and skills – I was hanging on his every word!”

Duncan is a keen cyclist, having represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and 2006, so is enjoying being on his bike for his commute to De Beauvoir Town.

I'm sure you'll join us in wishing John all the best for his retirement and welcoming Duncan to the Benyon Estate team.
