Inspiring the next generation of property professionals
Sixth form student Christopher Boyd is considering a career in property after spending a week at the Benyon Estate on work experience.
The year-12 pupil at Central Foundation Boys sixth form enjoyed five days work experience on the Estate helping with a range of administrative tasks and spending time out and about across De Beauvoir Town.
Christopher, who is 17-years-old, plans to go to university after completing his A-levels. But he said he was interested in working in property management after graduation and that his week at the Benyon Estate had given him a useful insight into what a career in property might entail.
Speaking halfway through the work placement he said: “I have already done quite a lot of different things here. I have been on a few property inspections, I have helped-out with some admin and it has been great to see how everything works.
“Everyone has treated me really nicely and have been really kind. I am really enjoying my time here.”
Christopher, who lives just a five-minute walk away from the Estate, is studying geography, history and government and politics at A-level.
Duncan Urquhart, our Property Maintenance Manager, said Christopher had met tenants from the Estate and seen some of the work that goes into maintaining the properties and managing changes when one residential tenant moves out and another moves in.
“He’s really keen and super bright,” Duncan said of Christopher. “He’s very proactive and not shy of work. We’ve really enjoyed having him on the Estate.”
Duncan said it is always worthwhile having work experience students spend time at the Estate – and not just for the young people. “It’s good for us as a team as well,” he said.
“It highlights things about other parts of the Estate that we might need to know about. It’s a very useful thing for us as an Estate to do.”
