An evening of A-list comedy performances for charity
A fundraising event in aid of a performing arts charity has attracted a host of stars for a glittering evening of comedy.
April Foolery is Eastside’s annual fundraising gala which this year takes place in the Criterion Theatre in London’s West End on 15th April. It features some of the UK’s best-known and best-loved comedians, all performing to raise funds for the charity.
The Eastside Educational Trust is an East London-based provider of arts and educational workshops and programmes to children and young people from under-served areas.
Edward Benyon was appointed Chair of Eastside last November and will make a short speech ahead of the drinks reception which takes place before the show opens. This year marks the charity’s 30th anniversary, making the April Foolery event extra special.
The performers will include Hugh Dennis and his comedy partner Steve Punt, both well-known as Punt and Dennis from BBC Radio 4’s weekly satire, The Now Show. Hugh also played Pete Brockman, the father in the BBC 1 sitcom Outnumbered and Toby in Not Going Out with Lee Mack and Sally Bretton.
Audacious practical joker Simon Bodkin, who has played pranks on former Prime Minister Theresa May and ex-US President Donald Trump for the Channel 4 show, Britain’s Greatest Hoaxer is also on the bill for April Foolery.
He will be joined by stand-up comedian Jenny Éclair, actor and improviser Rachel Parris, stand-up, writer and actor Rajiv Karia and stand-up and animator Alasdair Beckett-King.
The money raised at April Foolery will be directed towards Eastside’s Lund Fund, which raises money in memory of inspirational teacher David Lund who died in 2010. He left a legacy to support the creative development of young people and the fund has a target of £1 million.
