Luxury events organiser Sauveur Studios is the latest business to move into the Block, with founder Matthew Shaw revealing that the concentration of creative companies already based here was a key factor in his decision to take the space.

“De Beauvoir and the Block are a reflection of who we are as a business,” he says. “We are pitched as a luxury brand but we are a little bit left field – we attract wealthy clients, but we like to do things a little bit differently and that suits this location.”

Matthew founded the business five years ago and moved into the Block in September from premises in nearby Haggerston. He lives in the area and had known of the Block and the Benyon Estate for several years. “I’ve always been a fan,” he says.

Sauveur organises high-end events including weddings and private parties, mainly for UK-based clients. The events can be in Britain, Europe or even further afield. Previous successes include a Roman Pool Party in Sicily, a Highland Wedding in Invernesshire, a private music festival in the desert in Morocco and a lavish birthday dinner and after-party in Hampshire.

A team of three full-time staff make up Sauveur, but the company calls on up to 15 other specialist freelancers to assist at individual events. When the party or wedding is in full flow there could be 250 or 300 people involved in ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Matthew said the premises at The Block provide both a space to meet with clients that is comfortable and convenient plus significant storage for the goods and equipment that the business needs.

Sauveur Studios is busy at the moment and reports a boost in demand for winter weddings. Matthew explains an event in winter requires a different approach with important considerations to be taken around the venue, the weather and the dress code.

He advises: “You will want to think carefully about how your guests move around to ensure they are kept warm and dry. And importantly, do not forget that your cloakroom will very likely be under strong demand!”

Josh Summers, our Head of Commercial Property, welcomes Matthew and Sauveur Studios to the Block. “The range and variety of the businesses based here seems to keep on growing and we are so pleased to be working with Matthew and Sauveur Studios,” he says.

“It is good to know that they feel the location and facilities at the Block are such a good match for their work.”
